Get to Know Ms. Holt
Amanda Holt grew up in Versailles, KY. She originally wanted to be an oncological researcher, and in high school, you would frequently find her hanging out in the Chemistry room doing extra experiments. She had another untapped love, however--one she wouldn't fully appreciate until her first year at Transylvania University when she took her Introduction to Poetry class with Dr. Antony Vital to fulfill her Humanities credit.
Ms. Holt was fascinated by words. She realized their power to comfort, to heal, to challenge, to honor, to teach and to change on the positive end, and to hurt and manipulate on the negative end. She wanted to spend her time not in a lab working by herself with chemicals, but with people actively exchanging words in all mediums.
She graduated Transylvania in 2011 with a dual degree in English and Psychology (she still needed something science-y). After graduating, she completed a year of service with AmeriCorps VISTA at The International Book Project in Lexington, KY then went on to complete her Master's in Secondary English Education at the University of Kentucky.
Ms. Holt enjoys reading, writing poetry, being outdoors (especially backpacking, day-hiking, and kayaking), volunteering, cooking healthy foods, doing high intensity interval training, cuddling her cat, watching documentaries or Game of Thrones, listening to embarrassing music, growing her own food, and laughing with her family and friends as often as possible.
